Tutu much tulle {and a GIVEAWAY!}

giveawayA few weeks ago, while Alex was away, Canberra had a very wet week. Elena goes to child care Monday through Wednesday, and by Wednesday afternoon it was clear that the wet weather was taking a toll.Β  Everyone’s patience was unravelling. The kids were sick of being inside (I swear Elena lives for her days in their sandpit!) and the educators were working hard to keep everyone happy. They were exhausted. I had a thought that I should pull something together for addition to the centre’s dress up box – something that could be kept in the cupboard and pulled out when desperate measures were called for. Dress ups are a perfect wet weather distraction. I’m planning to make some dinosaur tails too, but as a first contribution I set about making some little tutus.

I got my hands on some pink, white, purple and teal tulle, as well as some waistbands.

teal purpleThese are made in much the same way as my doll tutus, but using a crochet waistband instead of plain elastic. These tutus are about 13″ long and would fit up to a 23″ waist – they should fit up to a five year-old, I think.

waistI love how these have come up – they’re full and fluffy and have such a whimsical feel. Having made two, however, I’ve decided that I went a bit overboard on the tulle for my purpose.

tulleThey are beautiful and I’m sure would be loved by the kids, but I’m planning on making a bag of them for Elena’s room at child care and I think such full tutus would just get too ratty. I want to give something that helps the educators out – not something that gives them a headache.

I’ve started again with less tulle, but that leaves me with a question of what to do with these two. I have another tutu project in mind for Elena, and there aren’t any birthday parties coming up (can you believe it??).

As it turns out, this is my 100th blog entry, so I’ve decided to celebrate by giving them away to you – my lovely readers who have stuck with me for the last 100 posts. So, if you have or know a little person who would like a tutu for dress-ups, leave a comment below.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t know me from a bar of soap, are a friend living far away or someone we see every week for a play date, comment away! Spread the word to your friends. I’m happy to post them anywhere around the world. One entry per reader. You’ll need to leave your email address in the comment form so I can contact you if you win. I’ll leave the comments open for a week or so and then use a random generator to pick two of you. My decision will be final and no further correspondence will be entered into.

You can follow me on facebook for news of the winners.

Yay for 100 blog entries!

UPDATE: The giveaway is now closed – congrats to Bec and Emgy! Thanks to all who commented – hope to see you around πŸ™‚
