It’s cherry season

We’re having a crazy week here – my parents are visiting and things are happening all over the place. I’m knocking off all sorts of life admin, running errands and we’re getting things done in the yard. I’ve even managed to buy some new clothes – for probably the first time in three years! Alex and I have been ducking out after the children are asleep and going for walks. Glorious.

I’ve been watching our cherry tree like a hawk for the last few weeks, watching the fruit ripen and crossing my fingers we’d get some fruit before the birds took off with it all.

on the treeI’m pleased to say we have prevailed! The currawongs are enjoying their fair share, but we are too. I don’t think we’ll get our hands on enough to preserve, but they sure are yummy!

eatenThe tree is huge, so we’ve been climbing a ladder and doing our best. I don’t want to end up in hospital trying to explain about a huge cherry tree and a ladder and…well, you get the picture! I’m being good and only picking the ones closer to the ground.

I’m doing my best not to eat the cherries before they hit the bowl.

cherriesElena’s enjoying them right off the tree, but I’m a bit stressed about her swallowing the pits inadvertently. She’s good though, and stops when I tell her to and eats her way around the pit. This kid is growing up too fast. Look at her! Where did my baby go?

Those look delicious! I’m jealous your able to grow cherries. Not really an Edmonton fruit for growing. I’m also jealous that you are enjoying spring/summer and not the 10cm of snow we just got! =P

Wow – that is amazing. I love your house and your yard!! Wouldn’t worry about Elena swallowing the pips – Finn got through his first year of eating cherries swallowing them. Luckily they grow some sense as they get older.
