We’ve had so many lovely little friends turn two lately and it’s been so much fun. We were off to another party this weekend and a little birdie told me the birthday girl was receiving a doll for her birthday. I wanted to make something for the doll because Elena loves playing with hers. I settled on a little doll quilt.

The first thing to say about this project is: I am not a quilter. At all. I think quilters are so clever and neat. Quilting requires precision – not one of my strong points.

The fabric I used for the quilt top is from the ‘A Walk in the Woods’ range, designed by Aneela Hoey. I have been hoarding a charm pack of it for the last few years and have finally managed to part with it. I don’t think it’s available any more which is a pity. It is really sweet!

Other than that, I’ve not too much to add. The border fabric is from another range (I forgot to check which one when I bought it) and the binding was purchased at a local fabric store by the meter, and hand stitched in place. I followed the mitred corner tutorial here.

The corners aren’t perfect…especially the one I cut as I was trimming the batting a bit to get the binding to sit nicely. Always the way. The quilt is backed by some blue polka-dots I had in my stash.

I made the design up as I went along and machine quilted it by stitching in the ditch.

I’m actually pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s the perfect quilt for Spring. I hope it’s loved!

Other than stitching quilts for dolls, it has been pretty quiet around here on the creative front. Elena has been home all week with another middle ear infection so we’re off to an ENT specialist as soon as we can get an appointment. In the meantime, we’re looking at diet and trying to see if we can make an improvement…back to dairy-free.

In more positive news, Hugo has finally slept through the night. Three times in the last week. To say we have our fingers crossed for more sleep is an understatement!
