A first birthday gift

I believe there’s a certain magic in a carefully selected, lovingly hand made gift – as long as it’s appropriate and well made. I don’t make New Year’s resolutions, but if I did this year’s would be to make as many birthday presents as I can for the children in my life.

One of my closest friends’ daughter turns one in a few weeks. I’ve just cast on an ‘in threes’ for her. I’m sticking with the Bendigo Woollen Mill’s Luxury 10 ply in Lake combo that I used for one of my last gift ‘in threes’. This little one’s mother saw it while I was sewing on the buttons and liked the colour – if I stick with this combination I know I’m onto a winner. Plus, we tried it on her so I know it will fit!

As always, the next battle I have to fight will be over buttons. Maybe I should start looking now?

The weather here is crazy. Today is quite cool, with a cold southerly wind bringing our apparent temperature to just 10°C (50°F) according to the Bureau of Meteorology. It’s supposed to be the height of summer. I’m snuggled up on the couch with my knitting and a glass of red wine. Bliss.

I love making hand-knit gifts for wee ones. I’m also going to try to make things for the birthdays of all my favorite friends’ children this year.
